Heading into Week 3, the Ezekiel Elliott six-game suspension is still looming over the Dallas Cowboys. Elliott could very well play out the season without missing a game due to the suspension, but it could easily go the other way.

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Elliott's suspension may jeopardize his playing status against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football.

If an appeals court rules the NFL’s way, Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott could begin a six-game suspension as early as Monday night’s game against the Cardinals.

The Cowboys are coming off one of their worst losses in recent memory. Dallas fell to the Denver Broncos in Week 2 on the road with Elliott's performance being one he'd like to forget.

The Pro Bowler rushed for only eight yards on nine carries. Even quarterback Dak Prescott had more of an impact in the run game finishing with a team-high 24 yards on the ground.

Dallas hopes to bounce back this week against the Cardinals but will have trouble doing so without Elliott coming out of the backfield. Despite having formidable backups in Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden, Elliott brings another dynamic that can't be replaced.

As for when the Cowboys may find out about Elliott's status for Week 3, the league is patiently waiting for a ruling which could come down as early as today, via Pro Football Talk.

The NFL is currently waiting on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to rule on its motion to stay the injunction that blocks Elliott’s six-game suspension. If that ruling were to come down today, that would mean Elliott could find out today that he’s suspended for Week Three. Theoretically, a ruling could even be handed down Monday afternoon, and the NFL could suspend Elliott for that night’s game.
