In case you haven't heard, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is looking for a new contract and is holding out of training camp as a result. Earlier this week, Elliott headed to Cabo to train, something Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett seems perfectly fine with:
“No reaction to that,” said Garrett, according to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News. “We're focused on the guys we have here and what we need to be better every day. What I know about Zeke is Zeke loves playing football and Zeke works very hard at playing football. He's competitive, he's passionate, he's had a big impact on our team over the course of the last three years. We trust him as a player, we trust him as a person and we'd love to get him back here as soon as he can, and we trust that he's going to be ready to go.”
Elliott also went to Cabo to train during his six-game suspension back in 2017, so it seems like sort of a safe haven for him.
The 24-year-old is scheduled to make $3.9 million this year and $9.1 million in 2020, but Elliott is worried about his future, which is certainly understandable.
Elliott is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he led the NFL with 1,434 rushing yards while punching in six touchdowns and averaging 4.7 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 77 receptions for 567 yards and three scores, making the Pro Bowl as a result.
He entered the league as a fourth overall pick back in 2016 and paced the league with 1,631 rushing yards during his rookie campaign, earning a Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro honors.
