Players from the Dallas Cowboys have not been shy about expressing their Super Bowl expectations for the 2019 NFL season. Regardless, head coach Jason Garrett feels they still have plenty of work to do.

Several of the more notable Cowboys' names have embraced the hype of being a legitimate contender this year. According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Garrett thinks they need to pump the brakes for now:

“We’re way far off as a team, we’re not even close,” Garrett said. “I thought there were some flashes on both sides of the ball and the kicking game, flashing in each of the three units, but we’re not even close. Back to work. This is an important three-day stretch for us now.”

“We just know we’re not close,” Garrett continued. “The consistency you need with players, with units, throughout practice, young guys, how we communicate, we’re just a long way off. I don’t think it’s unique. Six real practices into training camp, that’s where teams are.”

Garrett's comments are likely an attempt to keep his players focused on the task at hand rather than looking so far ahead into the season. He understands that the Cowboys still have plenty of work to do before they are even close to becoming a finished product. He and the coaching staff need to ensure that all their players get on the same page once the regular season rolls around and from that point take it one game at a time.

Of course, it is safe to say that Garrett is happy to see his players exude such confidence heading into the preseason. Dallas has always welcomed any hype about a potential championship run. It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys can build off their massive success from the final stretch of the 2018 campaign.
