Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett’s job security has once again come in question after the Cowboys’ 28-14 defeat to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. The loss dropped to 3-5 on the season and in danger of once again missing the playoffs.
But despite speculation about his future, Garrett says he’s continuing to keep his focus on his job.
“I just focus on doing my job as well as I can do it every day,” Garrett said per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.
The Cowboys are two games behind the NFC East-leading Washington Redskins and one back of the Philadelphia Eagles, their opponent this week. And much like star running back Ezekiel Elliott, Garrett believes the Cowboys are still capable of turning things around and potentially challenging for the division.
“Absolutely,” Garrett said when asked if the Cowboys had a chance to turn it around. “We just have to focus on what we need to do. We just have to clean up the game and we have to get our eyes on Philadelphia right now.”
Garrett’s current contract will run until the end of next season. And despite the Cowboys’ disappointing record through eight games, owner Jerry Jones has ruled out an in-season coaching change.
But if the Cowboys fail to turn things around and miss the postseason once again, speculation about Garrett’s future will likely carry on into the offseason.
