The Dallas Cowboys are in a must-win situation in Week 17 in what could be Jason Garrett's final game as the team's head coach. Ahead of Sunday's game versus the Washington Redskins, Garrett spoke about the rumors surrounding his job status in Dallas.
Jason Garrett when asked today about his job security on a conference call with Redskins reporters: “I don’t really focus on that much at all. I really just try to focus on what I need to do each day to help our team play it’s best on Sunday, and that’ll continue to be my focus.”

Last week, Dallas entered as favorites to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles to clinch the NFC East title. Instead, the Cowboys were unable to score a single touchdown as they lost grip of the division lead.
Now, with a 7-8 record, the Cowboys will need to beat the Redskins in Week 17 and will need Philadelphia to lose to the New York Giants to sneak into the postseason. To call this season a disappointment for the Cowboys is a severe understatement.
Article Continues BelowBefore the year began, nearly everyone expected the Cowboys to be crowned as one of the best teams in the NFC. Even with the talent that is on the roster, Dallas has been unable to play consistently as a team.
While some of the blame can be placed on the players, most of it falls on the coaching staff. Garrett has been incapable of elevating the team in his ninth full season at the position.
Since taking the job in 2010, Garrett has combined for an 84-67 record in the regular season. As for the playoffs, he's only won two games and has failed to make it beyond the NFC Divisional Round.
Barring a miraculous Super Bowl run, the Cowboys will likely have a new coach in 2020. It would be somewhat poetic for the Garrett era in Dallas to come to an abrupt end with a loss to the hapless Redskins in Week 17.
