Disgruntled Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas has been strongly linked with the Dallas Cowboys all offseason. And unsurprisingly, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was asked about the All-Pro safety as the Cowboys kicked off camp. But Garrett didn’t take the bait and did his best to steer clear of the touchy topic.
“I really don’t want to get into it. I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to talk about someone on another team. Obviously, he’s been a great player for a long time,” Garrett said per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.
Thomas has been strongly linked with the Cowboys, his childhood team whom he still supports, since he went out and told Dallas publicly to come sign him. Garrett was also asked about that most unusual incident.

Despite Thomas’ desire to play for Dallas, it doesn’t seem like a deal is likely to happen anytime soon. According to Cowboys VP Stephen Jones, the team hasn’t talked to the Seahawks about a Thomas trade since the draft.
The Cowboys have a bit of a question mark at safety this season with youngsters Kavon Frazier and Xavier Woods expected to step up this season. Garrett could sure use someone with the All-Pro-caliber talent of Thomas in his secondary, but unless the Cowboys swing a huge deal for the Seahawks star, he’ll just have to make do with what he’s got at his disposal.
