Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that head coach Jason Garrett will not receive a contract extension before the 2019-20 season.
“We have been there before,” Jones told Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram at the NFL Honors program Saturday night before Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta.
“He trusts me. I do trust him or he wouldn’t be the head coach to begin with. Our business is made too much of when you look at extensions and non extensions.”
Though the Cowboys were crowned NFC East Champions this season, posting a 10-6 record, Jones' teams haven't reached the Super Bowl in over 23 years. Whether it's time for the franchise to part with Garrett after nine years still remains to be seen, but it will likely come down to how Dallas fares in the first part of next season.

“I don’t spend a lot of time on the business of football,” Garrett said from the red carpet at NFL Honors. “I spend time trying to build a team we all can be proud of.”
Jason Garrett is 77-59 in his tenure with the Cowboys, including three division titles and two playoff wins.
