All Dallas Cowboys fans remember Larry Allen as a legend in their team's history. Now, his son, Larry Allen Jr., has a chance to make it on to the Cowboys roster in 2019.
In an article by Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk, Williams talks about how Allen Jr. hopes to follow his father's footsteps with the Cowboys. Although, their paths into the NFL were quite different.
Larry Allen Sr. played 14 seasons in the NFL, with 12 of them coming in Dallas. He was drafted in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft out of Sonoma State.
Allen Sr. played left and right guard for the Cowboys en route to a Hall of Fame career. The retired offensive guard was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013.
Now, his son is trying to make his own career in the NFL. Allen Jr. plays offensive guard like his dad. Although, unlike his dad, Allen Jr. went undrafted.
Therefore, Allen Jr. is hoping to fight his way onto the Cowboys' 53-man roster before the regular season begins. Allen Jr. played college football at Harvard, where he has a biomedical engineering degree.
Article Continues BelowAllen Jr. talked about how his dad has helped guide him throughout his life to help get him to this point. Here's an excerpt of what he said about his dad.
“In a way, he’s just my dad,” Allen Jr. said. “He’s taught me the way he teaches anyone, but he’s also taught me as his son, and you can’t replace that. He’s been extremely helpful, and just trying to do what I can to make him proud and do what he did.”
The Cowboys have one of the best offensive lines in football so it's highly unlikely he'll get a starting job for them in 2019. Furthermore, teams need depth along their offensive line and that's where Allen Jr. can fit in.
It's safe to say he'll be alright if he doesn't get a chance to stick around in the NFL. Even though, he won't go down without a fight, just like his dad.
