The Dallas Cowboys have had issues with their pass rush in recent years. But it looks like they may have a shot at getting some help in the near future. It appears that former second-round pick Randy Gregory may be returning soon—that is if he gets reinstated.

According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, Gregory is getting close to applying for reinstatement. He has been suspended for most of the last two seasons due to repeated violations of the league’s drug policy.

But he has supposedly been doing what he needs to do to get back in the league. He has reportedly been adhering to the program. His representatives will need to file the necessary paperwork and he’ll have to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell before he can be reinstated.

At the combine, Stephen Jones said the team is acting as if Gregory will not be coming back. Whether this means they’ll be looking to improve the pass rush early in the draft remains to be seen. Last year’s first-round pick, Taco Charlton, had an underwhelming year.

If the team gets Gregory back and he can play like the guy he was at Nebraska, he’ll be a welcome addition to the defensive line. But it has been over a year since he has played and practically two since he played with any regularity.

Gregory was available for Dallas to take in the second round of the 2015 Draft because he tested positive for marijuana at the 2015 Combine. The Cowboys decided to take a chance on him, but Gregory couldn’t stop.

His first suspension came in February 2016 (four games). But he couldn’t stop smoking and failed another one a few months later. For that, he was suspended 10 additional games. That still didn’t deter him. He failed another and received a season-long suspension.
