Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett's job has been in flux for a while now. With a 7-7 record so far this season, Garrett might be out of Dallas in the coming future. However, rumors swirled last offseason that the Cowboys organization contacted New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton through back channels last offseason — presumably for the head coaching job.

Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones was asked about the rumors on the 105.3 the fan radio station.

“That's just untrue. Obviously we don't comment on rumors like that. Obviously our focus right now is beating the Eagles. Certainly everyone knows what we think of Jason. I do think we've been criticized to a fault for what we do think of him,” Jones said. “He just did a great job getting this team back on track yesterday and we're focused on beating the Eagles.”

The Cowboys 44-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday snapped a three-game losing streak for Dallas and was perhaps the team's best win this season.

Since becoming the team's head coach in 2010, Garrett has gone 84-66 — a winning percentage of 56 percent. Garrett has led the Cowboys to the playoffs only three times in his 10 years as head coach but has never made it past the divisional round.

If Garrett were to lose his job this offseason, various coaches including Payton, Ron Rivera and Urban Meyer are some of the few names that have been thrown around to date.

Even though they are 7-7, the Cowboys still sit atop the NFC East would be in the playoffs if they started today.
