The NFL and the NFLPA are working on a new agreement in terms of the national anthem controversy and if players will be punished for protesting the anthem. Dallas Cowboys executive Stephen Jones doesn't seem to care about what the new rules say, he hinted on Thursday that any player who doesn't stand for the anthem will be cut.

Stephen Jones was asked by KTCK 96.7 FN if he thought players would stand for the National Anthem and Jones said, “If they want to be a Dallas Cowboy, yes.”

“We certainly are supportive of them when they have their personal issues or their personal things that they want to pursue,” Stephen Jones added. “And we’ll help them pursue them on Tuesdays. But when you’re wearing the Dallas Cowboy uniform and a Dallas Cowboy helmet and you’re working for the Dallas Cowboys, you check the ‘I’ and the ‘me’ at the door and you’re a part of a team. There’s bright lines in terms of our organization.”

Depending on what the league and the NFLPA decide on for a rule, the Cowboys would find themselves in some trouble if they followed through with this idea of cutting players. If the NFL and NFLPA do agree that the players can kneel with no repercussions if the Cowboys decide to cut a player for kneeling the NFLPA would have quite the case against the team.

An agreement by the NFL and NFLPA is expected to be in place in the next couple of weeks.
