In the last several years, the Dallas Cowboys have struggled to break through to be true Super Bowl contenders. The team has either had their disappointing shortcoming in the regular season or falling just shy in the playoffs.
Soon-to-be inducted Hall of Famer Terrell Owens stated in a recent interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio that he believes the problem hasn't been the players but rather the coaching staff led by head coach Jason Garrett.

“When you look at since I left in '09, nothing has really changed. You think about the great players that are coming in and out of that organization, it can't just be all players. Wade Phillips was the head coach when I was there. I think the year before I got released, Garrett was the offensive coordinator. For whatever reason, Wade was fired and Garrett got put into that position. Up until a couple of years ago, his record was pretty much identical to Wade's. So, in my mind, Garrett should be fired if that's the case. I think that pretty much has been the Achilles heel for the Cowboys because you can't keep using the players, or player, as a scapegoat as to why you are not succeeding.”
This isn't the first time that Owens has called for Garrett's job as he stated earlier this year that the former NFL Coach of the Year hasn't lifted up the franchise to a standard that would warrant him keeping his position. The bulk of his tenure has seen the team struggle to find consistent success more often than not.
In fact, the Cowboys under Garrett have failed to reach the playoffs in all but two of the seven full seasons at the helm. The Cowboys have possessed a .500 or better record in all but one year under him, but the franchise has missed the postseason altogether more times than not during his tenure.
Owner Jerry Jones has stated that Garrett's job status is still stable at this point, but another disappointing season could see him out of a job if he's unable to take a notable step forward in helping the Cowboys compete for a Super Bowl in 2018.
