One wonders what La'el Collins thinks about this: The New York Jets figured to ask for future draft capital in any potential trade involving star safety Jamal Adams. But that might not be the case when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys.
Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network reported the Jets are showing interest in Cowboys offensive tackle La'el Collins in a possible swap for Adams (per Shane G. Tyler of Pro Football Network):
“I’m told right now that the player the Jets would ask for in a trade for Adams would be right tackle La’el Collins. That’s the player that they want. That’s the player that they’re going to target…If you’re a Jets fan, you know one thing – you can’t start the season with Chuma Edoga starting at right tackle.”
This would seem to be more of a “win now” move for the Jets if the Cowboys are willing to deal.
New York made a concerted effort to improve the offensive line this offseason, signing tackle George Fant and former Denver Broncos center Connor McGovern. The Jets also used their first-round selection to draft Mekhi Becton out of Louisville.

From the Cowboys' perspective, this could alleviate some future financial concerns in trading for Adams.
Collins will be entering the second year of a five-year, $50 million contract he signed with the Cowboys last September. Adams is reportedly asking for $20 million per year in any future contract extension, so getting Collins off the books would seem to help lessen some of the salary cap implications of such a deal.
Simultaneously, much of the Cowboys' offensive success stems from the strength of their offensive line. Would they be willing to part with Collins to address a major need in the secondary?
In any case, the Cowboys might have to do some maneuvering if they hope to land Adams.
