The Dallas Cowboys edged the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night 13-10 in what was a pivotal matchup down the stretch of the regular season.

It was also a contest that drew plenty of eyes across the country as it was the most-watched Thursday Night Football game in NFL history, according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal.

It was the perfect storm for Thursday night with the Saints coming into the contest playing like arguably the best team in the league on a 10-game winning streak tied for the best record behind their explosive offense. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have been surging in the right direction over the last couple of weeks, which has pushed them atop the NFC East standings.

It also helps that they are the one of the most popular teams in the NFL.

On top of that, it was a highly entertaining game despite the numerous missed calls by the referees throughout the contest. There were plenty of high-pressure situations for both sides even with there being minimal scoring.

This was a defensive battle with the Cowboys simply getting the best of the Saints by shutting them down for only 176 total offensive yards along with 14 first downs, going 3-for-11 on third down, and failing to covert both red zone trips. This was simply a game dictated by a Dallas defense that swayed it in the right direction for the franchise.

Dallas is a primetime team that draws a crowd whenever they play and New Orleans is one of the best teams in the NFL. That is why the game earned the highest viewership in Thursday Night Football history.
