The Denver Broncos acquired Joe Flacco in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month, but that does not necessarily mean they are going to show Case Keenum the door.

Broncos president of football operations John Elway told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Broncos “would love to have” Keenum back for 2019, an indication that Flacco may not have the starting job locked up.

However, Elway added that if the Broncos did keep Keenum, it would likely be on a restructured deal as a backup.

Denver signed Keenum to a two-year, $36 million contract last offseason. However, Keenum ended up being a pretty big disappointment during his first season with the Broncos, throwing for 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while completing 62.3 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 81.2.

The Broncos signed Keenum based off of the strength of his 2017 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings, where Keenum threw for 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven picks while completing 67.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.3.

Keenum, who played his collegiate football at the University of Houston, went undrafted but ended up landing with the Houston Texans for the 2013 campaign.

He started eight games for the Texans during his rookie season, finishing with 1,760 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions, recording a completion percentage of 54.2 percent and a passer rating of 78.2.

The 31-year-old spent his first two seasons in Houston before landing with the St. Louis Rams, where he resided for two years before joining the Vikings in 2017.

The Broncos are coming off of a season in which they won just six games.
