Quarterback Carson Wentz's second season in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles abruptly came to an end last year when the young gunslinger went down with a knee injury against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14 on the road. Wentz was ultimately ruled out for the rest of the 2017 campaign with a torn left ACL.

Even without their star quarterback under center, the Eagles were able to make all the way to the Super Bowl and take down Tom Brady's New England Patriots. Nick Foles came away with Super Bowl MVP honors while Wentz became more motivated than ever to get back healthy for the start of next season. The 25-year-old made his return to the field on Tuesday as he began throwing during OTAs.

Obviously, this is a great sign for the Eagles as their talented young quarterback appears to be on track to be back under center for the start of the 2018 campaign on Sept. 6 when Philadelphia hosts Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons.

Before Wentz went down with his season-ending knee injury last year, the North Dakota State product was making a strong case to be the league's MVP. Wentz, Brady, and Rams running back Todd Gurley were all in the running with the Eagles undisputed leader being the frontrunner.

Unfortunately for Wentz, Brady ultimately won the regular-season award while the up-and-comer could only watch from the sidelines. Losing the opportunity to win his first MVP award and seeing his team go onto win the Super Bowl without him has almost certainly weighed heavily on Wentz and may fuel his fire heading into his third season in Philadelphia.
