Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are fresh off of an absolute beatdown of the Oakland Raiders. They were favored to win this matchup all week long and they took care of business by a final score of 42-24. It was a close game until late in the first half and the Packers never looked back in the second half.
While the win is huge in and of itself, the performance from Rodgers was a huge step in the right direction.
Green Bay has struggled at times offensively this season under new head coach Matt LaFleur. At the beginning of the year, there were some who were getting concerned about how Rodgers looked in the new system. Now, those concerns can be shut down.
Against the Raiders in the blowout win, Rodgers completed 25 of his 31 pass attempts for 429 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also scored a touchdown on the ground.
In addition to the statistics, Rodgers looked to be back to his old self from a personality standpoint. When he scored his rushing touchdown, Rodgers broke out the championship belt celebration. Green Bay has not seen that celebration for quite some time and it is obvious that Rodgers is having a ton of fun.
Keep in mind, Rodgers was able to put up that kind of production without superstar wide receiver Davante Adams on the field. He also had two wide receivers who were questionable leading up to kickoff in Geronimo Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Despite the injuries, the Packers looked unstoppable.
Article Continues BelowRodgers has heard his name mentioned in the early season MVP conversation this season. Some have been hesitant to talk about him as a candidate due to his statistics not being up to par with what we have come to know and expect from him. With his performance against the Raiders, Rodgers is more than deserving of being involved in that conversation.
Not only did his numbers take a huge leap, the Packers are now 6-1. They are one of the best teams in the NFL so far this season and Super Bowl contention seems likely, assuming they can remain relatively healthy.
If Rodgers continues playing at this level, the Packers are going to be nearly impossible to beat. They have an improved defense and one of the best quarterbacks of all-time.
It's time for fans in Green Bay to begin getting very excited about their team once again.
