Josh Gordon is set to hit waivers after being released by the New England Patriots from injured reserve. While he isn't going to be able to pick his next team manually, there are quite a few teams that would make sense as a potential landing spot. One of those teams is the Green Bay Packers.

Granted, the Packers are way down on the waiver priority list, which means that their chances of getting him are fairly slim. However, if other teams decide to pass on him due to his past issues with the NFL's drug policy, that could give the Packers a chance. It would make too much sense for them to pass up.

Over the past few weeks, the Packers have looked like an offensive powerhouse under first-year head coach Matt LaFleur. Aaron Rodgers has started playing like an MVP once again and the team has been wanting to add another lethal weapon for him. That's where Gordon would come into play perfectly.

While Gordon hasn't had a great season with the Patriots, catching 20 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown, there is no doubt that he has the kind of playmaking talent that Green Bay needs.

Ahead of the NFL trade deadline, the Packers were interested in acquiring New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson. Anderson, who has his own past of issues off the field, would have brought speed and deep ball potential to the offense. Gordon brings that exact skill-set, although he actually has even bigger potential.

Giving Rodgers a weapon like Gordon would make the Packers' offense nearly impossible to stop. With Davante Adams set to return to the field and other wide receivers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison, and Allen Lazard stepping up, the addition of Gordon would be a game changer.

Brian Gutekunst has made it clear that he is going to be aggressive when it comes to adding talent. While Gordon may be a bit of a risk due to his past and consistency issues, the Packers need to swing for the fences.

Putting in a waiver claim for Gordon doesn't come close to guaranteeing the Packers a chance at Gordon, but they need to make the move anyway. If other teams pass on him, Green Bay may just end up getting lucky.

Expect to hear more about Gordon in the near future. More than likely, we will know his next team this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST. If it ends up being the Packers, their Super Bowl hopes will get yet another boost.
