Mike McCarthy has had a lot of success as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. He has had a good run leading the way with the opportunity to coach one of the best quarterbacks of all-time in Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, his future with the Packers is incredibly clouded.

Rumors have been swirling that the Packers will strongly consider firing their head coach at the end of the season. Green Bay's loss last night against the Minnesota Vikings practically ended their season. They will have missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, although Rodgers missed most of 2017 due to a collarbone injury.

Green Bay does not handle losing well. They have been known as a franchise that wins football games and makes playoff runs. McCarthy has not gotten the job done over the last couple seasons.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening this coming offseason. Green Bay will have two first-round picks and they have a lot of young talent on their roster. There are plenty of pieces to build around.

All of that being said, let's take a look at three reasons the Packers must fire McCarthy and bring in a new head coach.

Aaron Rodgers

3. McCarthy's Play-Calling Is Completely Outdated

McCarthy has had the luxury of coaching Rodgers, but has only been able to deliver one Super Bowl. A big reason for that lack of success has been his play-calling. That has been a big issue this season as well.

Whether the play-calling has been poor decisions on fourth down or simply not adapting to teams knowing the Packers' system, the offense has become completely predictable.

Green Bay has seen multiple fourth down calls end up going nowhere. There was another one against the Vikings with McCarthy making the call to run directly up the middle in his own territory. That ended with the run being stopped short and the Packers handing easy momentum over to the Vikings.

Play-calling is a huge part of an offense and McCarthy simply isn't getting the job done even with one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.

2. It's Obvious There's a Disconnect Between Rodgers and McCarthy

Next up on the list has to be the relationship between Rodgers and McCarthy. There have been reports all season long that Rodgers has been unhappy with the way his head coach has run things. If that is indeed the case, Brian Gutekunst has to make the decision to get rid of McCarthy.

Over the years, Rodgers has always stood up for McCarthy. The last couple of seasons, however, it has been apparent that Rodgers has not agreed with quite a few of the decisions that McCarthy has made.

If there is a disconnect between the superstar quarterback and the head coach, the team cannot afford to side with the coach.

Josh McDaniels, Patriots

1. There Are Names Out There That Could Take the Team Forward

Josh McDaniels is one name that has come out as a coach that could be of interest to the Packers if they moved on from McCarthy. Even if he didn't end up being the guy, the Packers know that there are some offensive geniuses out there who could completely turn things around in Green Bay.

Outside of McDaniels, there are other young coaches that could have major interest in coaching the Packers. John DeFilippo, the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, could also be an intriguing name to keep an eye on.

Regardless of who the Packers end up getting, McCarthy is not getting the job done. Mike Pettine has done a solid job as the Packers' new defensive coordinator and is likely going to stay put for now. A new head coach could bring his own staff, but Pettine is a very respected defensive coordinator.

Moving on from McCarthy is the right move to make for the Packers. They need a fresh start with a new coach before they waste the rest of Rodgers' career with mediocrity.
