The Green Bay Packers offense officially came to a stall in 2018, and it’ll be up to incoming coach Matt LaFleur and his offensive stance to change that. Luckily for the Packers, LaFleur says he plans on approaching it from a variety of angles.
During today’s formal introduction of the coaching staff via Pro Football Talk, LaFleur and his offensive staff – offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy – all noted that they will have a role in helping rebuild the Packers offense.
Getsy is no stranger to Green Bay, and LaFleur even noted that he spoke to Aaron Rodgers about the hire prior to making it.
According to the new coach, Getsy’s past experience with quarterbacks was a big factor in the hire, noting that it gives the team “three quarterback guys who are going to be hitting it from all angles” when it comes to working with Rodgers.
LaFleur also added that he doesn’t anticipate missing any quarterback meetings during the season, meaning he’s going to be extremely hands-on with the team to make sure things get off to a good start.
According to Hackett, the Green Bay offense might not be changing too much, but will just be employing different terminology under the same concepts that the team has had in place already.
While this might be worrisome to some, new terminology can go a long way in making things seem much simpler to players when they try to break down a play.
Only time will if the Packers can return to being an NFC powerhouse, but it seems like the new coaching staff is already hard at work trying to make sure that happens.
