The Green Bay Packers have had an auspicious offseason that has brought forth questions concerning the future of the franchise. The team is coming off their first season missing the playoffs in nearly a decade, which has pushed the organization in a new direction.
With the 2018 NFL Draft set to begin on Thursday night, the Packers could be one of the more active teams as Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network is reporting that the team could possibly move up from the 14th overall pick to grab a top-tier talent.
The new #Packers may be on display Thursday night. They are among the teams plotting a potential trade up — from No. 14 — for a top-tier talent, sources say. It would be their first opening round move up since Clay Matthews in 2009.

It has been quite some time since Green Bay has been active on the first day of the draft, which could signal that the franchise is looking to get out of the rut it has been in. The team has several holes to fill in the secondary, defensive line and along the offensive line. There will be several promising talents at each of those spots among the top-tier players that will be available.
At this point, there is no clarity in terms which player the team is targeting, but things could begin to heat up once the draft gets underway and takes shape in the early goings of the first round. The Packers are in a unique position with the 14th overall selection that could see them still grab a highly talented player at that spot without the necessity of a trade. They also hold the 45th overall pick, which could come into play in possible trade talks as it's a high draft selection that could grab an intriguing player.
This renewed effort may be a push by the organization to take advantage of their situation with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers being under center as he remains one of the league's top quarterbacks if not the most gifted at the position. If anything, this chatter is certainly something to keep an eye on.
