The Green Bay Packers are in an interesting situation this offseason at the quarterback position. Aaron Rodgers is 36 years old and some believe he is showing major signs of regression. That has led to rumors flying around that the Packers could take a look at a quarterback in the first couple of rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Packers Wire noted that the team has had a virtual visit with Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.

If the Packers are going to target Love, they would likely have to trade up in the first round from their current No. 30 overall pick. They could also trade back into the second round and target a guy like Jacob Eason or Jake Fromm. Jalen Hurts could be another option for Green Bay to consider.
However, while the option may be intriguing, Brian Gutekunst and company should hold off for at least another year.
Why The Packers Shouldn't Take A QB Early
Quite simply, the Packers can't afford to waste an early pick on a position that they don't currently need. Rodgers still has four years left on his contract and the talk about his regressing has gotten a bit out of hand. He still put together a very good season in 2019.
Rodgers completed 62 percent of his pass attempts for 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He also racked up 183 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Those numbers don't scream for the Packers to draft a quarterback early in the 2020 draft.
Green Bay should instead focus their attention on adding talent at wide receiver, inside linebacker, and other areas of need. They are only a piece or two away from competing for a Super Bowl. With the window begin open to compete, they can't afford to waste time and assets.
Granted, the Packers should start planning for life after Rodgers. Taking a quarterback next year or the year after would make much more sense. Rodgers won't be around for more than five or six more years more than likely, although stranger things have happened.
Among the prospects that the Packers should take a look at are Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins, Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray, or possibly even an offensive lineman like Houston's Josh Jones. All of those guys would fill more immediate needs for the franchise. Building around Rodgers is still something the Packers should feel comfortable doing.
Until he starts showing the inability to make the throws he made even last season, there is no need to panic.
Sure, a guy like Love or Hurts would be intriguing. Yes, they could be the future in Green Bay. But, the Packers need to focus on winning now while they still can with one of the best quarterbacks of all-time.
