Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last season. It’s the second time he’s had to return from such an injury as he also tore the ACL on his other knee during his freshman season in college.

Watson recovered well enough from his first injury without changing the way he plays. And he’s not about to start doing so now.

“Injuries are going to happen,” Watson said per Dave Johnson of the Daily Press. “I’ve dealt with this injury before as a freshman. And I played the same way I did the year before. There’s no point in switching up the routine. I’ll stay prepared and stay fit throughout the year, not just in the offseason but throughout the season. I do what I do. I don’t want to change anything that got me here.”

It’s understandable why Watson is hesitant to change his game. He ended up having himself quite a college career after he tore his first ACL. He ended up leading Clemson to back-to-back national championship games (with one win) and went in the first round in the NFL.

Watson’s ability to move around in the pocket and make plays with his feet is part of what makes him so special. The rest of the league got a taste of that during his rookie year as he put on some spectacular performances.

With two serious knee injuries already under his belt at just 22 years of age, health will unfortunately be a concern for him for the rest of his career. But if he’s to play at the high level he showed last season, he just needs to continue to do what he does best, regardless of the risk.
