Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson made headlines against the Oakland Raiders when he got kicked in the eye in the middle of a play and still managed to throw a touchdown pass to tight end Darren Fells. It appears he is now taking precautions to ensure it does not happen again.

Watson was seen after the game sporting a noticeable shiner of his eye. It seems he is now sporting a clear visor on his helmet, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

“We’re just kind of going with the flow and seeing how the week kind of goes,” Watson said in a press conference. “I’ve worn a visor before. It’s not a big deal, but it’s something that we’ll know as the week continues.”

It is safe to say that the visor would prevent him from receiving any further kicks that may reach through the face mask. Regardless, the upkeep of having to make sure it is clean and free of any blurriness can be a bit tedious throughout the course of the game. Fortunately, he appears to already be somewhat familiar with wearing them.

Watson has been nothing short of spectacular in the 2019 NFL season and his efforts in the 27-24 win over the Raiders have helped establish him as the front runner for MVP thus far. Given all the key injuries Houston has suffered on defense, it seems he will need to continue to play at a high level if they hope to continue winning shootouts against opposing teams.

Watson will look to keep it going in the second half of the season starting with the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
