The Houston Texans have released their official statement on Deshaun Watson's trade to the Cleveland Browns on Friday.
General manager Nick Caserio and CEO Cal McNair addressed the trade and highlighted the importance of the deal as they try to build a strong roster for the 2022 season. The Texans GM shared that he “felt it was the right move” as they now focus on “adding talented players to the foundation we have already put in place over the last 15 months.”
“As we navigate through the rest of the offseason, we remain open-minded to all avenues that allow us to improve our roster and add to our program,”Caserio added, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Texans have yet to address their QB situation, but according to recent reports, they are expected to build around Davis Mills. The young quarterback started in 11 of the 13 games he played for Houston last season, and he did show flashes of brilliance despite the team struggling for the most part of the season.

With that said, it makes sense if they do decide to keep Mills as their starting quarterback.
McNair, for his part, praised the Texans for pulling off a trade that benefits the team greatly despite previous doubts about the market for Watson. For those not in the know, Watson's sexual abuse lawsuits made it impossible to trade him, but the Houston franchise remained patient in handling his situation until he cleared it up to pave way for a trade.
“I'm extremely proud of the way Nick Caserio navigated us through this challenging situation. He remained patient before ultimately making the decision that is best for us in both the short and long term. We're confident in our plan to build a championship program that can sustain success and our entire organization is excited to move forward together,” McNair said.
The Texans still have a lot of decisions to make following the Deshaun Watson trade. After all, they still have to actually build a roster that will get them to the playoffs and to Super Bowl contention. But for now, they got to love where they are currently at with all the assets they have.
