The Houston Texans were able to overcome a double-digit deficit to take down the Buffalo Bills in last week's Wild Card game in an impressive comeback that was spearheaded by Deshaun Watson. Among the teammates that believe in him, J.J. Watt believes that Houston is never out of a game with Watson under center.
“The guy has done it all year long, and like we’ve always said, you’re never out of a game when you’re on this team because of what we’ve got at the quarterback position,” Watt said on Wednesday via Avery Duncan.
Last Saturday, the Texans faced a 16-0 deficit midway through the third quarter. After having minimal success on the offensive side of the ball, Watson began to get into a groove for Houston.
Ever since his college days at Clemson, Watson has been labeled as a winner and clutch performer. At Clemson, Watson was able to defeat Alabama in the National Championship with a game-winning touchdown pass.
Some quarterbacks crumble under added pressure when everything is on the line. But for Watson, he seems to become calmer when he is asked to deliver in important moments for the Texans.
For example, in last week's narrow victory, Watson made arguably the biggest play of his career. With time dwindling in overtime, Watson was able to miraculously escape two defenders to make a throw to Taiwan Jones.
The 34-yard pass to Jones led the Texans to a position where they could kick the game-winning field goal. If Sunday's game versus the Kansas City Chiefs comes down to needing a score from Watson, the Texans are confident he will come through for them.
