After the Houston Texans surprised a lot of people releasing running back D'Onta Foreman there were some who wondered if the team would trade for Melvin Gordon. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle quickly shot down those rumors reporting that the team wouldn't be trading for Gordon, rather the team is looking for a backup behind Lamar Miller.

There is no doubt that Gordon would be an upgrade, but Miller is still a solid running back and comes at a lot cheaper price tag than the current Los Angeles Chargers star.

First, the Texans would have to give away draft picks or players to get Gordon and it would probably be quite a haul that the Chargers are asking for.

Second, the Texans would have to sign him to a long term deal and with Deshaun Watson needing an extension in a few years, it might be hard to pay both. Last season Miller was a solid back for the Texans rushing 210 times for 973 yards, and five touchdowns. He also was a threat catching passes out of the backfield and as long as he stays healthy he has proven that he is still a strong back.

Could the Texans still make a trade before the season starts for a running back? Sure they could but if they are going to do that it's going to be for a solid backup on a cheap contract, not someone they have to open the checkbook for and pay a big new contract to.
