Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts are heading into this week's matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs looking to make a major statement. At this point in time, the Colts have absolutely nothing to lose. They were not even expected to make the playoffs this season, but an impressive run got them in.

Now, the Colts are being viewed as one of the hottest teams in the league. Clutch Points has already taken a look at why Indianapolis should be viewed as a potential Super Bowl contender.

Kansas City is a completely different beat for the Colts to face off against than the Houston Texan were. Patrick Mahomes is expected to win the NFL MVP award this season and the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the league all season long. They have had some struggles against other elite teams, but the Colts are not expected to win this game.

Indianapolis has seen their offense perform at an extremely high level and their defense has stepped up as well. They may not have superstar names on their roster, but they do have a lot of young, hungry players making plays.

All of that being said, what three reasons can be given to support the statement that the Colts will defeat the Chiefs this week and shock the NFL?

Marlon Mack

3. Marlon Mack Against a Weak Run Defense

During the regular season, the Chiefs finished No. 27 in the NFL against the run. Marlon Mack has been one of the best running backs over the last 10 weeks and that is a recipe for Colts' success.

Mack is going to be asked to shoulder a big workload once again this week. Kansas City is not very good against the run and if they are forced to change their game plan, that will open up the aerial attack for Luck.

Needless to say, the Colts' running game has not been a strength over the last few years. Since Frank Reich took over as head coach, however, everything has changed. Running the football could lead the Colts to a big upset victory on Saturday.

Darius Leonard, Colts

2. A Defense Playing at Their Top Potential

Patrick Mahomes has an elite arm and passed for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns this season. Over the past few years, the Colts have been a team that would have been gutted by the pass. This year, the Colts are capable of making plays and that will be a major key this week.

Indianapolis has pass rushers that can get to Mahomes. Denico Autry, Margus Hunt, Jabaal Sheard, and Tyquan Lewis if he can get healthy will be asked to get to the quarterback. Darius Leonard will also have an opportunity to rush the passer.

If the Colts can get pressure on Mahomes, their secondary has been able to capitalize on quick decisions. Kenny Moore, Pierre Desir, Quincy Wilson, Malik Hooker, and Clayton Geathers have to continue playing at the level they have this season.

Andrew Luck, Colts

1. Andrew Luck Can Shred a Weak Secondary

Getting back to the offensive side of the football, Andrew Luck has been playing like an MVP during the Colts' impressive run to the playoffs. Last week against the Texans, Luck completed 19 of his 32 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

Houston's defense is a lot better than what Kansas City has to work with. The Chiefs do have Dee Ford and Chris Jones who will put pressure on Luck. Their secondary, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

Kansas City gave up the second-most passing yards in the NFL during the regular season. Eric Berry is hoping to play, which would give the Chiefs a boost, but the Colts should still be able to take advantage.

If Luck and the Colts' offense can continue making big plays down the field via the air, the Chiefs are going to be in trouble.
