The NFL has been put on blast since Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against the league and several teams. It's been rather hectic during this time, but Flores has gained support from nearly everyone. Now, Indianapolis Colts star Darius Leonard offers his input on the situation.
According to AP News, the Colts' star didn't hold back when discussing the environment in which the team owners have created. He states, “You know, a lot of owners … behind closed doors say a lot of things, and as players, we don't get to see that. And coaches, with Brian, you lose and it (stinks), and you want to make a change. Somehow we've got to find a way to make an even platform for all races, not just Blacks or white, but for all races. We've got to make sure that it's equal opportunities for everyone.”
Although the NFL has attempted to make things more fair for everyone, the league has utterly failed so far. There has been a lack of diversity at the head coaching position for quite some time and the league must change. The Colts linebacker points out the obvious for minority candidates in the league, per AP News.
“I feel like African-American coaches sometimes get the short end of the stick, so we’ve just got to find a way to get that going,” Colts star Darius Leonard.
We'll see how the rest of this coaching cycle plays out, but Leonard has made some excellent points about what's going on in the league. Maybe one day the Colts' star becomes a coach after his playing days are over and helps with the necessary change in the NFL.
