Despite the season-ending injury of Daniel Jones, the Indianapolis Colts are not willing to simply roll over and die. The major setback couldn't come at a worse time for the Colts, who have lost four of their last five games.
The team is now reportedly turning to a familiar face to get the campaign back on track. Indianapolis will work out Philip Rivers to possibly replace Jones, who tore his Achilles against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
With the surprising development about the 44-year-old Rivers, fans wondered about the status of Anthony Richardson. The third-year quarterback remains on the reserve list due to an eye injury, and there's still no timetable for his return.
“Anthony Richardson is still on the payroll, right?” said @ToddOliver2112.
“They looked at Anthony Richardson one time and said, ‘call Phil,'“ added @longlivedarius_.
“The Colts want Philip out of retirement? Anthony Richardson must be horrific, bro,” wrote @thefrugalshrimp.
“No way this man is better than Anthony Richardson,” posted @najeesburner22.
“The average sports social media talking head is so dumb. Do y’all not realize Anthony Richardson has a fractured orbital?” reminded @ThereGoLog.
The 23-year-old Richardson was expected to be the Colts' cornerstone after being drafted fourth overall in 2023. His career, however, hasn't panned out yet. He lost his starting job to Jones in the offseason and has only made two appearances this year.
As for Rivers, he hasn't played in the NFL since 2020 when he suited up for the Colts. He led them to an 11-5 record, throwing for 4,169 yards and 24 touchdowns.
