Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette has a money problem thanks to his team's voiding of the guarantees, and he's not a happy man.
With more than $7 million in salary still owed to him under his rookie contract, and with the Jaguars voiding that guarantee, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Fournette has filed a formal challenge of his team's voiding of the guarantee.
Previously, it had been reported that Leonard Fournette's contract specifically states that if the player does not take the field for practice or play for any other reason than a football-related injury, the team reserved the right to void the guarantee.
Article Continues BelowBut while the team reserved the right to void the guarantee if the player in question was incarcerated for a felony conviction, it didn't necessarily outline the same penalty for a misdemeanor conviction. Additionally, the contract doesn't provide for the voiding of the guarantees based on any specific on-field misconduct that results in a suspension.
That may be seen as a mere question of splitting proverbial hairs, but it's on these bases that Leonard Fournette is fighting the voiding of the guarantee. And there's some speculation that his counterclaim holds some proverbial water.
Leonard Fournette was suspended for one game after he left the field and joined in on a sideline fight during a game in Buffalo. That same day, executive V.P. of football operations Tom Coughlin publicly chastised Fournette and running back T.J. Yeldon for their shenanigans during the team's season-ending loss to the Houston Texans.
