Despite winning the Super Bowl in 2019, the Kansas City Chiefs are perceived as a team that has a weak secondary on defense. Charvarius Ward, who's quietly become a talented commodity for the Chiefs, is predicting his own breakout season with supreme confidence.

“Honestly, I feel like I could be one of the best young corners in the game as long as I just keep believing in myself and having confidence in myself off the field and on the field,” Ward said. “The sky is the limit. I feel like I’m going to be one of the best young corners in the game this season. I’m going to earn my respect this year.”

Coming into the NFL as an undrafted rookie out of Middle Tennessee State in 2018, Ward knew he wasn't going to be handed anything. Nonetheless, he'd done nothing but impress in his first two seasons with the Chiefs.

In his first season in Kansas City, Ward showed flashes of being an up-and-coming cornerback, logging three pass breakups and 30 tackles. He would build off of that by starting in all 16 games for the Chiefs last season, notching 10 pass breakups and two interceptions.

Throughout the offseason, Kansas City was able to retain 20 of their 22 starters from their Super Bowl team in 2019. Nevertheless, the loss of Kendall Fuller in the secondary is viewed as a glaring concern for some fans.

While aiding the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory, Ward definitely exceeded expectations in 2019. With that being said, as good as he performed a season ago, Ward believes he can take his game to another level in 2020.
