Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sees that his chemistry with Tyreek Hill has continued to grow due to the wideout’s sheer versatility on the field.

As was the case in the previous few seasons, Hill has remained as Mahomes’ most reliable target in the ongoing campaign. Hill’s growing skill set as a route-runner has also added another dimension to the Chiefs offense, as offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy can not only call upon the veteran receiver in the deep passing game but also in short passing plays out wide as well.

In speaking during a press conference ahead of the Chiefs’ AFC divisional round matchup against the Buffalo Bills, Mahomes took some time to go in-depth on Hill’s continual development as a receiver, where he noted that the sixth-year wideout could find success regardless of the coverage at hand.

“The way he’s able to run routes in between coverages – I mean pretty much every coverage he has two people on him or two people kind of shadowing over the top of him and he’s still getting himself open, making tough catches over the middle of the field,” Mahomes said.

“He’s really evolved his game and at the end of the day, whenever he gets into those man coverage situations like he did this last weekend, you can always hit him over the top for touchdowns.”

Even in limited targets, Hill shined in the Chiefs’ AFC wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers due to the five receptions hauled in for 57 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The Bills secondary may end up throwing multiple different coverages against Mahomes and company in an effort to simply catch them off guard. Thus, Hill may be called upon more than usual for a bulk of pivotal targets against a Bills secondary that finished the regular season ranking first in passing yards allowed per game with a 163.0 average.
