After their loss in Super Bowl 55 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it was revealed that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would undergo surgery on his plantar plate, or, turf toe in the offseason. It was a lingering injury that bothered him throughout the season, and recovery was expected to take several months.

On Monday, Mahomes was reportedly out of his boot for his big left toe and revealed that he feels he’s ahead of schedule for his rehab, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

Mahomes’ quick recovery from surgery is certainly good news for Chiefs fans, especially since his rehab from the injury was not given a clear timetable. It seems that the 25-year-old is on track to make a full recovery from the injury and be ready in time for the 2021 NFL season.

Regarding his mentality following surgery, the 2018 NFL MVP revealed that the injury wasn’t a setback to anything he wanted to achieve in the offseason, per James Palmer of NFL Network. Instead, he believes the injury and his recovery will help him in the long run, much like the other setbacks he’s had in the past.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are looking to win the Lombardi Trophy once more after failing to win consecutive Super Bowls last season. In 2020, the one-time Super Bowl MVP completed 66.3% of his passes for 4,740 passing yards and 36 touchdowns with six interceptions in 15 games for Kansas City. Mahomes making a full recovery from a lingering injury that bothered him last season will certainly go a long way in helping the Chiefs win another Super Bowl.
