Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were dethroned on Sunday, with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sending them home after a 31-9 blowout in Super Bowl 55. Last year's champs had no answers to Tampa Bay both offensively and defensively, as they were ultimately dominated by Brady and his squad.

Mahomes, the 2020 Super Bowl MVP and this season's runner-up for league MVP, had nothing but love for Kansas City as he sent out a heartfelt message to the fans after their tough loss.

The 25-year-old certainly didn't have the Super Bowl he envisioned. He had an awful evening after throwing for 270 yards, connecting only 26 of his 49 passes for the Chiefs. Mahomes also tallied 2 interceptions, was sacked thrice, and–for the first time in his playoff career–was held scoreless.

Patrick Mahomes' offensive weapons were also outclassed on Sunday. Tyreek Hill was held scoreless for the first time this season after just seven receptions for 73 yards. While Travis Kelce, the league's leading tight end, was also rather quiet with 10 receptions for 133 yards as the Bucs' defense had all the answers for the Chiefs all evening.

After the final whistle, Mahomes had to return the Pete Rozelle Trophy to Brady, who snagged his fifth Super Bowl MVP trophy–the most ever in the history of the NFL. All this should just be extra motivation for the young Chiefs QB to get back to work and hunt for his second Super Bowl ring.
