Patrick Mahomes already landed his big payday from the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, one of his top teammates is receiving the same.
On Tuesday, the Chiefs signed defensive lineman Chris Jones to a four-year, $85 million contract extension, and afterward, Mahomes took to Twitter to express his excitement:

Kansas City slapped a franchise tag on Jones earlier this offseason, a move that peeved Jones at first. However, it was obvious all along that the Chiefs wanted to make sure they took care of Mahomes first before extending anyone else.
And that was always understandable.
Jones is coming off of a 2019-20 campaign in which he played 13 games and registered 36 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four passes defended en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie campaign, logging 28 tackles and a couple of sacks. The following year, Jones showed marked improvement, registering 32 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles and seven passes defended.
The Houston native then broke out in 2018, racking up 40 tackles, 15.5 sacks, a pair of forced fumbles, a pick, five passes defended and a defensive touchdown.
The Chiefs won 12 games and captured the AFC West division crown en route to winning a Super Bowl title this past season. The club then handed Mahomes a massive 10-year contract extension worth up to $503 million on July 6.
