The tandem of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid is as good as it gets in the NFL. However, the quarterback and coach weren't always in sync with each other.

The 2018 NFL MVP claimed he wasn't too receptive of Reid's play-calling when he first came into the league:

“My first and second year here, he would drop some plays and I would be like, ‘I mean, I’ll try it but but I don’t know how’s that gonna work with the defense and how they’re playing,'” he said, via Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. “It seems like every single time I had that thought, it was a wide open touchdown. So nowadays, whenever he draws up [a play], I’m just ready to go and ready to go out there and execute it.”

Needless to say, Mahomes has made the right choice to trust Reid's system on the gridiron. After winning MVP in 2018, the quarterback followed that up in 2019 by leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record to reign supreme in the AFC West. They marched to the playoff picture with the No. 2 seed in the AFC bracket and ended up winning it all in Super Bowl LIV.

Heading into the latter stages of their 2020 campaign, the Chiefs are once again a Super Bowl contender. Meanwhile, Mahomes could win MVP for the second time in three seasons. The superstar has thrown 25 touchdowns to just one interception this season, leading the Chiefs to an 8-1 record. Furthermore, the 25-year-old signed the largest contract in sports earlier this year.

With Mahomes' statements, Chiefs Kingdom can expect the duo to lead from the forefront of defending their title as they vie for their second straight crown. Kansas City will look to move to 9-1 with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night.
