Over a year ago, Mike Trout signed a 12-year, $426.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Angeles, becoming the richest athlete in North American sports history. However, once Patrick Mahomes inks his monumental extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, he'll surpass Trout's contract, per ESPN's Field Yates.

Over the years, we've seen some outrageous contracts in baseball. As a result, plenty of people have recommended that certain athletes make the decision to play in the MLB rather than declare for the NFL. Seeing that Mahomes is going to make baseball money in the NFL, it appears he might have made the right choice.

Before Mahomes signs his extension, he still has two years remaining on his rookie contract. According to multiple reports, his extension is going to tack on another 10 years to his current deal.

Altogether, the 24-year-old gunslinger is going to be receiving an extension that gives him at least $427.6 million over 12 years. Also, it's important to note that the $427.6 million price tag is the minimum he'll receive from the Chiefs. That's quite the pay increase for someone who made a base salary of $645,000 in 2019.

In his first two seasons as the starting quarterback in Kansas City, Mahomes has combined for 9,128 yards, 76 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Above all, he's compiled a 23-7 regular-season record and helped end the Chiefs' 50-year drought after winning the Super Bowl last season.

At a young age, Mahomes has cemented himself as the best quarterback in the NFL. While he's already left his mark in the NFL, he'll be making sports history when he puts pen to paper with the Chiefs.
