Patrick Mahomes has solidified himself as the best quarterback in the NFL, and he believes he has taken a massive leap in his fourth season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ahead of his second consecutive Super Bowl, Mahomes shared the one specific area in his game that he feels he's improved the most on.
“I think every single year you’re in the NFL, you learn more and more,” the Chiefs star said on Monday, via Pro Football Talk. “You get different looks. Especially with our offense, we get a lot of crazy looks and crazy blitzes and stuff like that. You have to learn how to adjust and learn how to go out there and have successful plays. This year, I felt super comfortable recognizing defenses, recognizing blitzes, recognizing coverages, and being able to get us into the right play and get a successful play going and a completion. It’s definitely something that I’ll continue to grow and continue to learn, but I feel like I’m at a way different level than I even was last year.”
Following his first Super Bowl win with the Chiefs last season, Patrick Mahomes admitted that he was still learning to read NFL defenses. His comments on his ability to read defenses captured headlines even though he never said he couldn't read defenses at all.
Nevertheless, Mahomes has spent countless hours to prepare for different looks that opposing defenses might give the Chiefs. Given Kansas City's high-octane offensive attack, teams attempt to throw a variety of coverages and schemes to try and slow down the signal-caller.
Despite the efforts from opposing defenses, Mahomes has combined for 114 passing touchdowns and only 23 interceptions in his first three seasons as a starter. It's safe to say that it is nearly impossible to find a noticeable flaw in his game right now.
