Before playing in Sunday's Super Bowl, it was reported that Patrick Mahomes would undergo surgery on his toe ailment this offseason. Following a lopsided defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed these details of Mahomes' impending toe surgery:
Source: #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a torn plantar plate in his foot, also known as turf toe. The rehab will be several months, but he’s expected to make a full recovery. Noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the procedure.

In Kansas City's Divisional Round matchup with the Cleveland Browns, Mahomes sustained a toe injury early in the game. While he would remain in the game with his toe injury, Mahomes had to exit the game later because of a head/neck injury after taking a hard hit.
After the Chiefs secured the win over the Browns, Mahomes was placed in the league's concussion protocol. He was also diagnosed with turf toe, which was actually the toughest injury of the two for him to deal with ahead of Kansas City's AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills.
Patrick Mahomes looked fine with his toe ailment against the Bills, throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl. However, Mahomes was running for his life against the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl in a 31-9 blowout loss.
The surgery for Mahomes will take place on Wednesday and will repair a torn plantar plate in his foot. Luckily for the Chiefs, Mahomes will only need several months to rehab his injury and is expected to make a full recovery in the offseason, so he should be good to go for the 2021 season.
Turf toe is an awful injury to have when you're a quarterback that relies on using your feet to escape pressure and make plays down the field. At the least, Patrick Mahomes is going to undergo surgery to fix the issues that have taken place in his foot in recent weeks.
