One of the major moves that the Kansas City Chiefs made this offseason was the signing of veteran wide receiver Sammy Watkins on a three-year, $48 million deal in NFL free agency.

However, it appears that Watkins has suffered a hip injury practice on Monday that has forced him to leave practice early, according to BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com.

There is currently no clarity on the extent of the injury that Watkins is dealing with as the team may be taking the precautionary approach by taking him out of practice immediately. At this juncture, there is no certainty whether it will put him out of action for the preseason opener on Thursday night against the Houston Texans. The Chiefs may opt to hold him out of action to avoid any possible setbacks from occurring prior to the start of the season.

He has had a career marred with injuries that include hip issues back during his days with the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs likely want to avoid him from experiencing any lingering issues, especially this early into training camp. Last season with the Los Angeles Rams, it had been the first time in his career that he has been able to go through an entire year without dealing with any type of injury.

Kansas City has already made it clear in the offseason workouts that Watkins will have a significant part in their offensive game plan that seen them feature him in the slot at times in the offseason workouts. Despite his injury history, the _-year-old has shown to be a game-changing talent on the field when healthy behind his speed and big-play ability. His presence should add another huge weapon to the Chiefs explosive offense that also features wide receiver Tyreek Hill, tight end Travis Kelce, and running back Kareem Hunt.
