Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was a limited participant at practice on Monday, according to an official statement released by the AFC West franchise. According to the team, Kelce is still dealing with a lingering knee injury. His status is day-to-day with Week 1 of the 2020 regular season not far away, on Thursday night.
It is also worth noting that Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi was a limited participant as a result of Monday's practice as well while running back Darrel Williams, defensive end Alex Okafor, safety Juan Thornhill and another tight end in Deon Yelder were all listed as full participants. Every player on the aforementioned list is currently battling their own respective leg injuries as perhaps the unique offseason has had an impact on players' response to conditioning.
Kelce and the Chiefs will kick-off the 2020-21 regular season against the always dangerous Houston Texans, a team that Kansas City defeated during last offseason. However, things did not go the Chiefs' way early as Houston quickly jumped out to a massive lead before quarterback Patrick Mahomes led Kansas City on an unbelievable run en route to a comeback victory. Of course, Mahomes would eventually go on to become the Super Bowl MVP as the Chiefs won the team's first title in the last five decades as a result of the 2019-20 campaign.
It remains to be seen how Kelce progresses ahead of the Thursday evening clash in Kansas City. His knee injury could potentially impact his availability for the Chiefs against the Texans.
