Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been having a tremendous campaign for the defending champs. So much so, that the 31-year-old is now on pace to set not one, but two highly impressive NFL records in the coming weeks.
As reported by Tom Childs of Arrowhead Pride, Kelce has an opportunity to take over the top spot in the entire league in terms of receiving yards when the Chiefs take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday:
Currently, Kelce comes into Week 14 with 1,114 receiving yards, which is good for second-most in the league and only five yards behind [Seattle] Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf (1,119 receiving yards) for the top spot.
Matchup-wise, it appears that Kelce will have a clearer path to the top spot as opposed to Metcalf, who himself is also set to face off against All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16.
Moreover, Kelce is also on pace to end the campaign with some historic numbers from the tight end position:
The 31-year-old not only could be the first-ever tight end to lead the league in receiving yards, but he’s also on pace to break George Kittle’s single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history. Back in 2018, the 49ers tight end set the record with 1,377 receiving. If Kelce continues at his current pace, he’s projected to finish with 1,485 receiving yards this season.
The Chiefs have been extremely impressive thus far, and there's no denying that Kelce has had a key role to play in the same. He's been one of Kansas City's best players on the field throughout the campaign, and if he keeps playing at such an elite level, then it would not be surprising if the Chiefs go back-to-back Super Bowl wins.
