The Kansas City Chiefs took a hit figuratively and literally on Sunday. Apart from suffering a 19-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers –their first of the season—the Chiefs also faced the possibility of losing one of their most dynamic playmakers in Tyreek Hill after the wide receiver appeared to be concussed late in the game.

Per Blair Berkhoff of KansasCity.com, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that Hill has been required to undergo the concussion protocol.

Hill took a big hit from Steelers’ pair of Tyler Matakevich and Roosevelt Nix while making a 32-yard punt return in the fourth quarter. Hill is tied with tight end Travis Kelce for the team lead in receiving yards with 390 to go with two touchdowns.

Luckily, after taking the required tests, Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk reported that Hill did not suffer a concussion:

The Chiefs got some good news after their first loss: Wide receiver Tyreek Hill does not have a concussion, a source told PFT.

The Chiefs have a short week ahead of them as they are scheduled to play the Oakland Raiders for a Thursday night game. The limited time for Hill to recover from a concussion and satisfy the protocol’s requirements might not have been enough for him to play; luckily, that won't be the case.

This is an important development for Kansas City, which already lost wide receiver Chris Conley for the season last week and missed the services of wideout Albert Wilson against the Steelers.

If Hill is still sidelined for Thursday on the short week, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith will have to prepare passing more to reserves De’Anthony Thomas and Demarcus Robinson on Thursday.
