An undrafted rookie seemed to have found his place in a loaded rotation for the Kansas City Chiefs. Defensive end Tershawn Wharton is making noise for himself and putting up a strong case for his inclusion in the team's final 53-man roster.
NFL Network reporter James Palmer tweeted the developments within the Chiefs camp:
I’m told one name that continues to pop up with people inside the #Chiefs building is Tershawn Wharton. The undrafted free agent from Missouri Science and Tech seems almost a lock to make the the teams’ 53 man roster. Great local story.

Wharton is a 6'4″, 255-pound player out of the local Missouri Science and Tech university. He is also a true Missouri native and attended the university to play for the Miners in NCAA Division II. He was also named as an All-American in 2018 and a three-time all-conference performer in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Article Continues BelowThe suspension of defensive tackle Mike Pennel for the first two games of the season helped the 22-year old player's chances to make the team. The Chiefs will be looking to carry an additional lineman down the depth chart for at least the first two contests against the Houston Texans in Week 1 and the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2.
Even with Pennel's absence, the Chiefs' defensive rotation is still one to be reckoned with. 2019 Pro Bowler Frank Clark, eight-year veteran Alex Okafor, rookie Michael Danna, and fourth-year player Tanoh Kpassagnon are all vying for a bigger role in the upcoming season. Former Miami Dolphin Taco Charlton, 2018 Chiefs' draftee Breeland Speaks, undrafted third-year player Demone Harris, and undrafted sophomore Tim Ward are aiming to make opening day roster as well.
The fate of Wharton's underdog story will be determined on September 5 when the final 53-man roster should already be named by then.
