In his second season, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is off to a blazing start to the 2018 campaign that has his holding an undefeated mark through the first five weeks along with him firmly in the MVP conversation.
Patrick Mahomes has proven to be a unique talent that has shown great promise for what lies ahead of him in his career. Beyond his physical gifts, it has been the work ethic toward his craft that he stated that includes patterning part of his game after New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, according to Zach Cox of NESN.com.
Article Continues Below“I actually watched Tom Brady a good amount in college,” Mahomes said Wednesday in a conference call with New England reporters. “My coach in college was Kliff Kingsbury, and he actually was a backup for Brady at one point. So he showed me things that he liked with Tom and his pocket movements and stuff he did within the pocket that I tried to put in my game a little bit.
“He’s someone that’s had a ton of success in this league and someone that you do take stuff from.”
This shouldn't come as much of a surprise as there is plenty to take away from the manner in which Brady plays on the field. There is a huge reason why he is regarded as being arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game, which lies with his habits and tendencies on the field that have helped him achieve much success.
Tom Brady has been quite methodical in the pocket throughout his illustrious career that has seen him pick apart opposing defenses with his preparation for the game while manipulating secondaries and making the right reads. There is plenty that falls into what has helped become a Hall of Fame-caliber talent.
That said, Sunday's matchup will be his chance to see first hand how Brady plays while showcasing to him what he can do to get the better of him and the Patriots in Week 6 action.
