There is a big possibility that Patrick Mahomes and the reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to replenish their offensive coaching staff by the end of the season. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Mike Kafka could get head coaching gigs from interested teams next year.
While Bieniemy “is expected to be a favorite” to get a gig, don't be surprised if Kafka also gets one thanks to his work with the explosive Chiefs offense.
It certainly wouldn't be ideal for the Chiefs to lose two prized assistants who have helped this Mahomes-led offense terrorize the league. Nevertheless, people in the franchise will definitely root for Bieniemy and Kafka to get promotions and thrive in lead coaching gigs in other organizations.
Article Continues BelowBieniemy has garnered interest over the last few years, and it's time for him to finally get the call to be a head coach. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Kafka has also gained some attention, especially since he has worked closely with the reigning Super Bowl MVP over the past four campaigns.
Of course, the Chiefs will worry about these potential departures down the road. They are currently 13-1 and are gunning for back-to-back Super Bowl titles this year. Should the defending champs defend their crown, it's likely that other teams will look to pry away a huge part of their offensive coaching staff in the hopes that they bring the same winning knowledge to their own organization.
