The Kansas City Chiefs may or may not have superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center for the team's latest appearance in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

With Mahomes previously exiting the team's divisional-round win over the pesky Cleveland Browns, the former NFL MVP has since entered the league's concussion protocol.

In order for Mahomes to play against the Bills this weekend, he must clear the aforementioned concussion protocol ahead of the looming matchup.

Of course, the Chiefs would be a much different team with veteran backup quarterback Chad Henne at the helm against a tough Bills squad that is long overdue for some time in the limelight.

However, there is no doubt that head coach Andy Reid will do everything in his power to ensure that Mahomes ultimately suits up on Sunday. If that is indeed the case, in the end, Mahomes will absolutely be at his best as he has already transcended to legendary status.

1. Patrick Mahomes will account for 5 total TDs

In order for the Chiefs to reach yet another Super Bowl, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going to have to see the field. While his health should no doubt remain at the forefront of this issue, his potential absence would absolutely crush the Chiefs' chances of advancing past the Bills. On the other hand, though, if Mahomes sees the field come Sunday, that only means trouble for the opposing Bills as the former NFL MVP and reigning Super Bowl MVP will find a way to exceed any and all expectations—as is a tradition at this point in his NFL playing career.

With the Chiefs employing more than a few supremely talented offensive players, Mahomes will be surrounded by dynamic playmakers that will allow him to revert right back to where he was prior to exiting last weekend's matchup against the Browns. Although utilizing his legs got him in a bit of trouble the last time out, that won't stop Mahomes from continuing to serve as a dual-threat quarterback en route to scoring at least a handful of total touchdowns against the Bills.

2. Patrick Mahomes will throw for more than 300 yards

Although the Bills have a more than formidable defense, when the Chiefs offense is clicking on all cylinders, it is a tough unit to slow down. If quarterback Mahomes does find a way to suit up for the Chiefs on Sunday, it should be more of the same for Kansas City, who has a litany of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Because an ailing Mahomes will still have players like wide receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce—among others—at his disposal, the Chiefs' passing attack won't miss a single beat against the Bills.

Mahomes, if on the field, will surely find a way to throw for more than 300 yards on Sunday. However, if Mahomes can't surpass the 300-yard passing mark in the AFC title game, the Chiefs' chances of advancing to the Super Bowl will severely diminish.

3. Patrick Mahomes will lead the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowls

The Chiefs snapped a 50-season-long drought in 2019-20 as the surging AFC West franchise won Super Bowl LIV with quarterback Patrick Mahomes notably becoming last year's Super Bowl MVP. With only the Bills standing in the way of another trip to the big game for the Chiefs, Mahomes will know exactly what's on the line and will no doubt come to play if healthy enough to see the field.

Even with the Bills stringing together quite the impressive effort through both the 2020-21 regular season and playoffs, the Chiefs—with Mahomes—will simply be too much for Buffalo to handle in the end. The Bills have excellent players on both offense and defense as this certainly won't be a cakewalk. However, Mahomes will still be the best player on the field as his ability to find open receivers is unconscious at this point. If the Chiefs defense can simply slow down the Bills just a tiny bit while leaving an opening for Mahomes to strike, the accomplished signal-caller will take advantage and then some.

If the Chiefs gain a sizable lead on Sunday, which can pretty much be expected for Kansas City, do not anticipate head coach Andy Reid and Mahomes to relinquish it. In other words, the Chiefs will once again win the AFC.
