The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves up on the Cleveland Browns in the latter half of the third quarter, but their luck may be running out fast. Patrick Mahomes has exited the game after taking a brutal hit that left him appearing disoriented.

Browns linebacker Mack Wilson delivered the critical hit to Mahomes, also making his first career tackle. Mahomes was attempting to gain a first down on a third-down conversion, making a scramble one of the more effective options.

With Mahomes in the locker room to determine if he has a concussion, Chad Henne has stepped up in his place. Mahomes leaves the contest completing 70 percent of his passes for 255 yards and one touchdown.

As for Henne, the 35-year-old backup has no playoff experience, making Sunday his first chance to leave a real impression on the field in postseason efforts. He saw action in three regular-season games, resulting in him completing 73.7 percent of his passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns.

Playing behind Mahomes doesn't necessarily leave much room for a boatload of snaps, but the hope for Kansas City is that Henne can maintain the lead throughout the remainder of the game if possible.

The Browns are looking to seize the moment of Patrick Mahomes being out for a comeback. They were viewed as legit underdogs coming into the matchup, but the absence of Mahomes has allowed the offense to turn up its intensity.

Expect Baker Mayfield to be one of the leaders to turn things around for the Browns along with their running game.

UPDATE:

Patrick Mahomes will not return to the game as he is downgraded to out, the Chiefs announced.
