Even though Ndamukong Suh is a beloved figure in Los Angeles, he was close to signing a deal with the New York Jets, according to a new report.

Suh spoke to the New York Post, where he revealed that he almost went from California dreamin' to a New York state of mind.

“It was close. I wanted to take a visit there. I had some good conversation with Todd Bowles and the defensive staff, but some things fell apart and I kind of went from there.”

Ndamukong Suh was released from the Miami Dolphins last year, so he was looking for a new home. In his quest, he considered the Jets, but ultimately signed a one-year, $14 million deal with the Rams and now will try to win a ring Sunday in Super Bowl 53.

This should put him in a better position to negotiate either a contract extension or a contract renewal.

But there can be no question that the Jets are probably regretting having things fall apart with Suh, because even though they made him an offer, they rescinded it a few days later.

It's not clear why the team withdrew their offer, however.

Now that the Jets have a new head coach — and outlook — with Adam Gase, it should be interesting to see if they snap up Ndamukong Suh if things don't work out, for whatever reason, between him and the Rams after the Super Bowl.

Ndamukong Suh and the Los Angeles Rams will take on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl this Sunday.
